Job hunting can be daunting, frustrating, and even disappointing. The range of these emotions can negatively affect your job search. How and what we think affects how and what we receive and achieve. Our thoughts affect our beliefs and our beliefs impact our actions. Don’t pretend negative feelings don’t exist. Acknowledge the negative feelings when they arise and challenge the negative thoughts with a more positive thought. Know that although things may not be going according to your perfect plan things can still come together perfectly.
Maybe you’re a bit afraid to dream about what the ideal job for you will entail. Take time to list your accomplishments and assets and check your list often. Have confidence in your abilities and experiences. Believe in yourself. Approach your job search with positive expectancy. A shift in your mindset and help you take control of not only your job search but your overall career.
Extra effort may be required to move forward when times get tough. Here are a few more ways to help you shift from a negative perspective to a positive mentality.
- Go to networking events
- Join a job search club
- Reach out to someone you can trust
